Flipkart went all out there to ensure the Big Billion Days – their 5 day sale extravaganza – was a big success.
The efforts ran the gamut of advertising, marketing and PR stunts. Full page newspaper ads, prime-spot newspaper hoardings, TVCs, radio, social media, and the works. The founders went as far as to do some of the deliveries themselves creating a big splash.
However, despite the app-only strategy, the sale went on to become a success across its long 5-day run. The company reportedly has shipped orders at a GMV of over $300mn, and considers it a huge success, a far cry from the fiasco last year.
And they threw an amazing party for their employees to celebrate, which also co-incided with Flipkart’s 8th anniversary.
The event was a lavish, Bollywood style extravaganza. Akshay Kumar was the highlight of the evening, much to the delight of 15,000 odd attendees, which included Flipkart employees and their spouses.

The event was hosted by Ayushman Khurana of Vicky Donor fame.
Vishal Dadlani regaled the crowds with his music.

And the company’s top brass was in attendance.
Flipkart’s employees had spent several nights in office during the Big Billion Day sale, making sure that its systems worked well under the stress of millions of people logging in to avail of the company’s discounts. While Flipkart is still locked in an intense battle with Amazon and Snapdeal for a share of India’s e-commerce pie, this was an opportunity for the employees to let their hair down and congratulate themselves on a job well done.
