HouseJoy Acquires Laundry Services Startup MyWash

Bangalore-based HouseJoy has acquired laundry services startup MyWash in what represents consolidation in the cluttered home services space. As a part of the deal, the founders of MyWash will receive equity in HouseJoy and along with other team members, will join the HouseJoy team.

Launched in January 2015, HouseJoy operates in 14 cities and provides a host of on-demand home services, including plumbing, electronics repair and house cleaning. It also has its own laundry service, which it hopes to scale from 1000 orders a day to 10,000 following the MyWash acquisition.

“This category has a lot of complexities and needs operational expertise, which MyWash team with two years of experience will help accelerate”, said HouseJoy CEO Saran Chatterjee. HouseJoy had recently raised $22.5 million in its Series B.

MyWash was founded by BITS Pilani alumni Silus Reddy Chintapalli and Raghu Bharat along with Balaji Ashok. It had raised $1 Mn in funding from early-stage fund Orios Venture Partners, and was in talks to raise its series A.

The home services space in India has seen lot of entrants including Taskbob, LocalOye, UrbanPro and Zimmber. There are now signs that the space is consolidating – late last year, Taskbob had acquired Zepper, in what was the first acquisition by a venture-funded player in the hyperlocal services space.
