On-demand cab service provider Ola cabs is expanding its wings beyond the cab business.
The Bangalore-based startup, which has been giving Uber a stiff competition in the on-demand cab space, has now started an all new app called the “Ola Store” for grocery delivery. Recently, it had also started a meals delivery on chosen routes which had met with a mixed response.

The company has been publicizing the app through tweets and emails sent to its cab service subscribers in Bangalore, thus utilizing the brand value and leveraging the large user base that Ola has created over the years.
We reviewed the app and so far it’s looking good. The layout is flat and minimalistic. The variety of groceries available is neatly segmented into fresh fruits & vegetables, Breakfast, Dairy, Butter and Eggs, Groceries and Supplies, Sweets and Snacks, Beverages and drinks, among others.
After an easy registeration process, the app takes you straight to the delivery option, available in one-hour gap slots beginning at 10 am. The shopper can pay via netbanking, credit card, cash on delivery or Ola money.
This moves comes close on the heels of already established grocery apps like Big Basket and Grofers looking to make bigger inroads into the city. Ola is currently valued at $2.5 billion and operates in all metro and big cities in India.
