Solar panels are all the rage in India today. They can now be commonly spotted on houses and commercial buildings, and are helping people reduce — and at times, eliminate — their electricity bills. While until a few years ago, most solar panels in India were imported, there are now several Indian companies making solar panels. A solar panel, or a solar module, is a collection of solar cells, that helps generate electricity from the sun. As of early 2024, these are the Indian companies with the greatest installed capacity of manufacturing solar panels.
1. Waaree Energies (9 GigaWatt)
Waaree Energies, founded in 1989 by Hitesh Doshi, is currently India’s largest solar panel manufacturer. It boasts a diverse product portfolio, encompassing solar panels, inverters, solar water pumps, and solar modules for various applications. The company’s nameplate capacity for manufacturing solar panels stands at 9 GW. The company has plants in Chikhli, Surat, Tumb and Nandigram in Gujarat.
2. Adani Solar (4 GigaWatt)
Adani Solar is the Solar PV manufacturing arm of Adani Group. It has a 4 GW manufacturing capacity in Mundra in Gujarat for making solar panels. Adani’s solar panel brands are called Pride and Shine. The company is looking to make its entire process vertically integrated, starting from silica, making ingots, then making solar cells and finally making solar modules. When complete, its facility in Mundra will be the world’s first fully integrated and comprehensive ecosystem of 10 GW solar PV manufacturing.
3. Vikram Solar (3.5 GigaWatt)
Vikram Solar is currently India’s third biggest solar panel manufacturer. It has 3.5 GW of installed manufacturing capacity, and produces mono PERC, bifacial & monofacial and smart and polycrystalline PV modules. Its factories are located in Falta SEZ, Kolkata and at Oragadam in Chennai.
4. Goldi Solar (2.5 GigaWatt)
Goldi Solar is based in Surat, and is one of India’s top solar panel manufacturing companies. Its solar modules are sold under the Heloc Plus and Heloc Pro brands. The company was founded in 2011, and caters to brands in over 20 countries. Godli Solar has a 2.5 GW installed manufacturing capacity of solar panels.
5. RenewSys (1.75 GigaWatt)
RenewSys is a part of the EnPee Group, founded by NP Kriplani all the way back in 1961 in Nigeria. RenewSys is now one of the top manufacturers of solar panels in India, with a capacity of 1.75 GW. It markets its solar modules under the Dserv range. The company has supplied its solar panels to more than 40 countries around the world. RenewSys has manufacutring facilities in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Patalganga in Maharashtra.
6. Premier Energies (1.6 GigaWatt)
Founded in 1995, Premier Energies is one of the top solar module manufacturers in India. The company has a nameplate capacity of 1.6 GW. Premier Energies’ manufacturing units are spread across three locations in Telangana over nearly 45 acres. Apart from solar panels, the company also manufactures solar cells.
7. Rayzon Solar (1.5 GigaWatt)
Rayzon Solar is a one of India’s top solar panel manufacturing companies. Based in Gujarat, it was founded in 2017 by Chirag Nakrani and Hardik Kothiya. The company started with a 40MW manufacturing capacity in 2017, which has been progressively increased to 150MW in 2019, 300MW in 2020, and currently operates with a capacity of 1.5 GW. Rayzon Solar Panels are 100% Made in India and are exported to more than 17 countries.
8. Saatvik Green Energy (1.5 GigaWatt)
Saatvik Green Energies is a leading module manufacturer in India. The company is currently operating a 1.5 GW facility in Haryana and is working to strengthen it with an additional 1.5 GW N-Topcon Module manufacturing capacity. Founded in 2015, Saatvik Green Energy is promoted by the Garg family.
9. EmmVee (1.25 GW)
Emmvee is a prominent solar energy company that specializes in manufacturing solar modules and solar water heating systems. Founded in 1992 by D.V Manjunatha, the company is headquartered in Bengaluru and has active sales offices in India and Germany.
10. Solex (1.2 GW)
Solex Energy Limited is one of India’s top solar panel manufacturers. The company’s journey began in 1995, selling the first solar water heater, and has since expanded to include various solar energy solutions under its umbrella. The company manufacturers solar panels which are then sold by other brands, and also exports its solar panels. It has an installed solar panel capacity of 1.2 GW.
11. Pahal Solar (0.9 GigaWatt)
Pahal Solar is one of India’s top solar panel manufacturers. The company was founded Paresh and Manish Shingala and is based in Gujarat. The company started with a 40MW manufacturing capacity in 2016, and now has a capacity of 0.9 GW.
12. Insolation Energy (0.7 GW)
Insolation Energy is a solar panel supplier and manufacturer based in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. Founded in 2015 by Manish Gupta, the company has a wide range of solar products tailored to the diverse needs of residential, commercial and industrial enterprises. It currently has an installed capacity of 0.7 GW for solar modules.
13. Jakson Group (0.6 GW)
Jakson Group is one of the top solar panel manufacturers in India. Established in 1947, the company has diversified interests in power generation, EPC services, solar energy, and manufacturing of diesel gensets and solar modules. Jakson Group has done solar rooftop installation at Ayodhya Airport and the development of a 40 MW power plant in Uttar Pradesh. It has an installed solar module capacity of 0.6 GW.
14. Navitas Solar (0.5 GW)
Navitas Solar is a leading Indian solar panel manufacturer founded by \Vineet Mittal, Sunay Shah, Ankit Singhania, Aditya Singhania, and Saurabh Aggarwal. The company currently has an installed capacity of 0.5 GW. The company is looking to include backward integration in its manufacturing facilities.
15. Gautam Solar (0.5 GW)
Gautam Solar was founded in 1997 by BK Mohanka, a former engineering professor, in Delhi. The company has since grown into a large manufacturer of solar panels, lights, pumps, and other solar energy products. It has a capacity of manufacturing 0.5 GW of solar panels through four factories in Uttarakhand.
