Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is finally back in the CEO role after starting an AI company, but Elon Musk isn’t impressed.
Elon Musk has called Jeff Bezos a “copycat” for starting an AI company named Project Prometheus. “Haha no way,” Musk posted on X. He then wrote ‘copy’ followed by the emoji of a cat, indicating that Bezos was a copycat.

Bezos and Musk do have some common business interests — space and now AI. Interestingly, Bezos had founded Blue Origin before Musk had founded SpaceX — Blue origin was founded in 2000, while Musk had started SpaceX in 2002. But Musk saw much more success, and now accounts for a lion’s share of all space launches across the world. Blue Origin has tried to catch up, and most recently, landed a rocket on a barge at sea, much like how SpaceX lands its rockets. Interestingly, Musk had congratulated Bezos back then. “Congratulations Jeff Bezos and the Blue Origin team!” Musk had posted four days ago.

But Bezos now also starting an AI company seems to have been a bit too much for Musk. Musk, of course, had founded OpenAI and was its first financial backer before leaving the project. After OpenAI achieved its breakthrough success with ChatGPT, Musk founded a new AI company named xAI. xAI has been releasing the Grok series of models, and aims to be at the cutting edge of the AI space.
It’s unclear what Bezos’ new AI venture, Project Prometheus will do, but it seems to be at the intersection of AI and manufacturing. Its LinkedIn page describes it as “AI for the physical economy”, and the startup will reportedly focus on AI that will help in engineering and manufacturing in a number of fields, including computers, aerospace and automobiles. All of this interests Elon Musk — particularly aerospace and automobiles — and he seems to now think that Bezos new ideas might be getting a little too close to his own for comfort.
