OpenAI is getting started with preparations to begin operations in India from its Delhi office.
After OpenAI announced that it would be setting up a New Delhi office, it has begun hiring for sales roles in India. On its careers page, several roles have popped up in India. All these roles are for Delhi, Mumbai or Bangalore locations.

Account Director, Digital Natives: This role involves managing a portfolio of customer accounts end-to-end, from pipeline generation to deployment and renewal, while working closely with researchers, engineers, and solution strategists to design complex AI-driven programs. Candidates are expected to bring at least seven years of SaaS or PaaS sales experience, a track record of engaging C-level executives, and strong skills in deal strategy and market analysis. OpenAI is seeking customer-centric leaders with a passion for AI, the ability to build scalable systems, and a strategic mindset to shape go-to-market approaches in India’s rapidly evolving tech landscape.
2. Account Director, Large Enterprise: This senior sales role focuses on managing a small number of high-value accounts, guiding them from exploration to deployment, and ensuring long-term adoption through complex, large-scale AI programs. Candidates must have over a decade of SaaS or PaaS sales experience, proven success in driving multimillion-dollar revenue targets, and strong relationships with C-level executives. 3. Applicants should bring over 14 years of SaaS or PaaS sales experience, a record of exceeding multimillion-dollar revenue targets, and deep expertise in navigating C-level relationships and high-stakes negotiations. This senior position also involves shaping go-to-market strategies, representing OpenAI at major industry events, and contributing to product direction, making it a pivotal role in advancing the company’s footprint among India’s largest and most influential enterprises.
It’s clear that OpenAI wants to create a sales team in India, which will likely cater to Indian clients and the broader region. OpenAI has been seen to be flagging its in business and enterprise section — while it remains the clear market leader with nearly 80% traffic share on its consumer app, OpenAI has seen its API share fall from 50% to 25% over the span of the last two years. OpenAI now seems to be working on redoubling its sales efforts, and with an office and a team in India, will hope to sell its products to businesses, both in India and the world.
