Reliance Launches AI Unit “Reliance Intelligence”, Partners With Google & Meta

Reliance had transformed India’s telecom space with the launch of Jio in 2016, and it now wants to do an encore with AI.

Reliance has announced the launch of a new subsidiary named “Reliance Intelligence”. Reliance Intelligence will lead the AI initiatives at the oil-to-telecom group. Reliance has partnered with Google and Meta for its new initiative.

”I’m proud that artificial intelligence is already at the heart of Reliance’s transformation into a deep tech enterprise,” Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani said at the company’s AGM. “To bring even more focus and speed to this agenda today, it is my great pleasure and privilege to announce the formation of a new, wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance called Reliance Intelligence,” he added.

“This new company is conceived with four clear missions. One: To house India’s next generation AI infrastructure, Reliance Intelligence will build gigawatt-scale AI-ready data centers powered by green energy, and engineered for training and inference at national scale. Work has already begun on the gigawatt scale AI-ready datacenters in Jamnagar. These facilities will be delivered in phases aligned to India’s growing needs, powered by Reliance’s new energy ecosystem, and purpose-built for AI training and inference.

“Two, to house global partnerships, Reliance Intelligence will bring the world’s best tech companies and open source communities together with Reliance’s deep domain expertise and execution strength to deliver performance leadership, resilient supply, and India first compliance for AI,” he added.

“Three: to build AI services for India, Reliance Intelligence will deliver trusted, easy to use AI services for consumers, small businesses and enterprises, and solutions for sectors of national importance such as education, healthcare, and agriculture. Reliable at scale and affordable for every Indian,” Ambani said.

“And four: to house talent for AI. Above all, Reliance Intelligence will create a home for world-class researchers, engineers, designers, and product builders, combining the speed of research with the rigor of engineering so that ideas become innovations and applications providing solutions to India,” he added.

Reliance is also creating a dedicated joint venture with Meta to deliver sovereign, enterprise-ready AI platforms tailored for Indian businesses and government entities. The partnership will combine Meta’s open-source Llama models with Reliance’s reach across energy, telecom, retail and manufacturing. “Together we want to ensure that everyone in India has access to AI — and eventually superintelligence,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said. Zuckerberg called the venture a model for how open-source AI can scale securely in a national context.

Reliance also announced a “deeper, holistic partnership” with Google, which is already an investor in Jio since 2020. Google Cloud and Reliance will set up a dedicated cloud region in Jamnagar. This facility will run on clean energy supplied by Reliance, and connect through Jio’s network. Google and Reliance will apply Al across Reliance’s businesses — including energy, retail, telecom, and financial services. Reliance will also keep using Google’s cloud services, and Google Cloud will remain Reliance’s largest public cloud partner.
