Ola had lost its long-held position at the top of the electric two-wheeler lists in December 2024, but the first month of the new year has seen it come roaring back.
Ola Electric was India’s best-selling electric two wheeler company in January 2025, ahead of both Bajaj and TVS. In January, Ola Electric sold 24,330 units, marginally ahead of TVS which sold 23,788 units and Bajaj, which sold 21,294 scooters. Ather Energy with 12,895 units and Greaves Electric with 3,611 units were at the fourth and fifth positions respectively.
Ola has regained the top spot after being relegated to third position last month. In December, Bajaj had become India’s top-selling electric 2W company, selling 18,276 units. It was followed by TVS Motors, which sold 17,212 units, and Ola Electric, which managed to sell just 13,769 units. This had been the first month in which Ola had been relegated to second place in more than a year.
Ola losing the top spot in December had been quite a turnaround from June last year, when Ola alone had cornered nearly half of the electric two-wheeler market in India. In June, Ola had a market share of 49 percent, which fell to 39 percent in July, 32 percent in August, and 27 percent in September. In October, Ola Electric’s market share rose marginally to 30 percent, but fell to 24 percent in November, a shade ahead of TVS at 23 percent and Bajaj at 22 percent. And in December, Ola’s market share had fallen to 23 percent, while Bajaj had grabbed the number one spot with 25 percent.
Ola, though, has regained the top spot in January, but it’s clear that the gap between the top three players has narrowed from a couple of quarters ago. Bajaj had been playing up its increased market share in recent months, with MD Rajiv Bajaj saying “Ola to Ola hai, Bajaj to shola hai” at an event. But with Ola having bounced back to top spot in January, it might be a while before a clear winner emerges in the extremely competitive electric two-wheeler market in India.
