If I Play League Of Legends, It’ll Damage The Space Program: Elon Musk

Elon Musk might be one of the top Diablo players in the world, but there are some games he doesn’t want to play.

Elon Musk has said that if he plays league of legends, it’ll damage the space program. “Do you ever play Fortnite?” US President Donald Trump’s granddaughter Kai Trump asked him in a video at a SpaceX launch last year. “No,” Musk replied, laughing. “But I did play Quake and a bunch of other first-person shooters,” he said.

“What about League (of legends)? Did you ever play League of Legends?” someone else asked him. “If I started playing League, it will damage the space program,” he replied.

Musk’s has a well-documented history with video games, having previously spoken about his proficiency in Diablo, where he was ranked as the 19th best player in the world, and his interest in strategy-heavy games like Polytopia. His strategic thinking in both business and gaming has proven to be a major asset, with Musk excelling in decision-making and resource management—key elements in both launching rockets and leading digital armies.

Given Musk’s passion for gaming, it’s not a stretch to assume he might actually enjoy League of Legends, a game known for its complex strategies, team dynamics, and fast-paced action. However, therein lies the danger. Unlike single-player games where one can pause and walk away, League of Legends thrives on its competitive, time-consuming nature, demanding players’ full commitment for matches that can last from 20 minutes to over an hour. And that’s not counting the inevitable “just one more game” syndrome that has ensnared millions of players worldwide.

Musk’s refusal to even touch League of Legends suggests he recognizes its potential to consume his time—time that is better spent revolutionizing transportation, AI, and space exploration. The game’s notorious ability to hook players into lengthy sessions, grinding for ranks, and perfecting their mechanics has left many individuals glued to their screens for hours on end. If Musk were to fall into this cycle, one can only imagine the consequences: delayed Starship launches, missed Mars colonization deadlines, and an overall slowdown of human progress into the cosmos. And Musk’s refusal to play League of legends might be a big miss for the game’s community, but a win for humanity as a whole.
