Lovable currently allows its users to use all kinds of AI models within its platform, but its founder and CEO believes some are better businesses than others.
Lovable CEO Anton Osika says that he’d invest in xAI’s Grok, and bet against OpenAI. Osika was answering a question posed by Harry Stebbings on his 20VC podcast. “Grok at $100 billion, Anthropic at $180 billion and OpenAI at $380 billion,” Stebbings said referring to the current valuations of these companies. “Which one do you invest in, and which one do you short?” he asked in a “rapid fire” round.

“I’d invest in Grok…and I’d short OpenAI,” Osika replied. “I think it’s more the slope on Grok’s team,” he added, justifying his choice to buy Grok. “They’re doing something that I respect a lot, which is to hire missionaries for their data curation part, which they call AI tutoring. I think the morale is much, much better in that team than both of the other teams. The morale is super high,” he said.
“OpenAI has gone through all this mess, right,” he said, likely referencing to GPT-5’s flubbed launch. “Anthropic has good morale as well, and they’re growing fast on the enterprise side from what I hear,” he added.
Osika had previously said in the interview that GPT-5 wasn’t a step function improvement over previous models. “The biggest part of GPT-5 that’s disappointing is that now they have to optimize all these different things into one model. Earlier it was different models. And they have to do it really fast. And so it’s inevitably going to fall short in some dimensions. It’s a disappointment that you can’t improve in all the directions at the same time,” he’d added.
Anton Osika’s perspective is useful, because he’s at the forefront of how these models are being used by millions of people. Lovable, which lets non-coders create full apps using AI, became a unicorn within 8 months of being founded. It now has an ARR of $120 million, becoming one of the fastest companies to reach $100 million in ARR. Lovable uses all kinds of different models within its platform, and even lets users choose their own. As such, Osika needs to keep tabs on how the models are performing relative to one another, and which models users are choosing. And it appears that Lovable at least is extremely bullish on Grok given its recent progress, and believes that OpenAI might not be a great pick at a valuation of $380 million.
