Organizations Helping Disadvantaged Students with CSR Initiatives

The year 2024 has seen numerous scholarship initiatives across India, providing financial support and motivating students to excel academically. Organizations across the country have taken up the responsibility of offering financial aid to deserving students. Here’s a list of corporations and philanthropic foundations that conducted special distribution events to recognize the effort and hard work of students.

1. Vidya Jyothi Scholarship Distribution by Canara Bank, Udupi

Canara Bank organized the Dr. Ambedkar Vidya Jyothi Scholarship distribution ceremony in Udupi at the Syndicate Bank Golden Jubilee Auditorium. The ceremony was inaugurated by Commissioner Rayappa of the Udupi city municipality. The event aimed to support students from backward communities. 

Scholarships were awarded to students from grades 5 to 10, with the younger students receiving Rs 3,000 and the older students receiving Rs 5,000. The scholarships, awarded based on academic performance, aim to empower students. A total of 40 female students were supported through this initiative.

2. Akshaya Patra and Dr. Majeed Foundation Scholarship Program, Bengaluru

This year, the Akshaya Patra Foundation collaborated with the Dr. Majeed Foundation to launch its scholarship program. This initiative was held at the MVT Hall on the ISKCON Campus. It aims to support students from economically backward areas. A staggering amount of INR 25 lakh was pledged to benefit over 130 students from government-aided schools. The program provided scholarships to 75 students from 11th and 12th grades, as well as 55 students completing their Bachelor’s degrees.

3. SCM Garments Scholarship Event, Tirupur

SCM Garments, a leading apparel exporter based in Tirupur, awarded Rs 1 crore in scholarships to 4971 students as part of their annual CSR initiative. The scholarships were distributed to students from government schools, diploma courses, and graduation programs.

Tirupur Corporation Commissioner Pawankumar G. Kariyapavanar encouraged the students to continue excelling in their education. He emphasized the importance of education as a pathway to acquiring wealth and success. This large-scale initiative aims to support the children of SCM Garments workers, providing them with the financial assistance they need to continue their education and secure a bright future.

4. RMD Foundation Scholarship Event, Pune

On the birth anniversary of Rasiklal Dhariwal, the RMD Foundation held a scholarship distribution event in Pune.  Over 12,000 students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds were awarded scholarships. Scholarships were awarded to medical students, continuing the foundation’s long-standing commitment to supporting higher education for students. Shobhatai R. Dhariwal, Vice President of the RMD Foundation, highlighted the transformative impact of the scholarship program, which has helped thousands of students pursue their educational dreams.

5. MVPM and Abhay Bhutada Foundation Scholarship Distribution, Pune

Abhay Bhutada

The Maheshwari Vidya Pracharak Mandal (MVPM) and Abhay Bhutada Foundation collaborated this year to distribute scholarships to students from the Maheshwari community in Pune. The event was attended by Abhay Bhutada, founder and chairman of the Abhay Bhutada Foundation. Ten students were awarded INR 1 lakh each for their academic excellence, while 15 students from economically weaker backgrounds were also awarded INR 1 lakh each. Abhay Bhutada handed these scholarships to both merit-based and need-based students.
