Range
“How long does the battery last?” is probably the most asked question about electric mountain bikes. The battery life affects how long you can ride the bike using the motor’s power. Thus it’s one of the most important considerations.
This question can only be partially answered, much to everyone’s disappointment, and here’s why. Many factors impact battery life and, therefore, the range of the bike, including the rider’s weight, terrain type, pedaling input, and so on.
So, is there any way to estimate how far your MTB will travel (approximately)?
Yes, and the easiest way to figure it out is to look at the watt-hours (Wh). The longer the battery life, the greater the amount of Wh. More Whs, on the other hand, implies a heavier battery, so keep that in mind as well!
Price
A high price does not always imply good quality, as it does with almost any other product. The price can be a sign of the former in certain cases, but it may also be hype in others.
This implies you shouldn’t spend your hard-earned cash on the most expensive e-bike on the market (and they may be very pricey) because it may not be worth it.
That’s right, you read that correctly.
This is especially important for first-time shoppers. There are many reasonably cost choices available that are of above-average quality and capable of providing you with a safe and enjoyable riding experience.
If you are not happy with a mid-priced electric mountain bike, you can always upgrade to one of the top-of-the-line models. Don’t be shocked if some of them sell for more than $5000!
Tire Size
If you believe tires aren’t important, think again!
Tires are extremely important. They offer traction, cushioning, and a variety of other mechanical properties to your eMTB, all of which have a significant influence on your riding experience. The size of your tires will be the most crucial factor to consider.
It works like this: wider the tire, more the traction
Depending on what you want out of your ride, traction may be your best friend or worst enemy. If you want to overcome some hills, use broad tires, but if you want to travel as quickly as possible, use narrower tires.
To give you a sense of scale, tire sizes range from 2” to 3”. Yes, that means you’ll be able to find all of the sizes in between, with 2.6” being called a “sweet spot” for tire sizes. If you’ve never ridden an electric mountain bike before, going with the 2.6” size is a good idea.
