Ola Electric already has a near-50-percent share in India’s electric 2-wheeler markets, and it’s gone ahead and added a whole new product to its portfolio.
Ola Electric has announced its entry into the electric motorbikes space with its new Roadster series. Ola’s electric motorbikes will be launched under three variants, the Roadster, the Roadster X, and the Roadster Pro, all of which will have subvariants of their own. The launch was announced at the company’s Sankalp event on Independence Day.
The base variant is Roadster X, which starts at Rs. 74,999. The Roadster X has a top speed of 124 kmph, and a range of 200 km on a single charge. The Roadster X will have a peak power of 11 kW. Next in line is the Roadster, which starts at Rs. 1,04,999. The Roadster has a top speed of 126 kmph, and a range of 248 km. The bike has a peak power of 13 kW. Ola Electric’s top-of-the-range bike is the Roadster Pro, which starts at Rs. 1,99,999. The Roadster Pro has a top speed of 194 kmph, and a range of 594 kms. It packs in a peak power of 52 kW.
Deliveries for the Roadster and the Roadster X will start in January 2025, while deliveries for the Roadster Pro will start around Diwali 2025. The bikes can be reserved starting today.
“Today, we will reveal the future of our business across three companies and three distinct segments,” Ola Electric CEO Bhavish Agarwal said athe event. “Our ambition for the Ola Consumer business is to provide affordable, efficient, and accessible ride experiences across India. Just three years ago, Ola Electric was merely a dream. Today, we have become the leading EV company in the country and the largest two-wheeler EV manufacturer in the world. In fact, among all EV companies globally, we now rank as the fifth largest concerning the market capitalisation,” he added.
And Ola seems to have come this far by out-innovating and out-competing its rivals. It had been founded only in 2017, but brushed aside incumbents like TVS and Bajaj, and older startups like Ather Energy to become India’s top two-wheeler EV manufacturer. Not to be content with its market leadership, it has now gone ahead and launched an electric motorcycle before any of its other major electric rivals have done so. And with 65 percent of India’s two-wheeler sales being motorcycles, the company will have plenty of headroom to grow with its electric bikes. It remains to be seen how Indian consumers take to Ola’s bikes, but there’s little doubt that it’s the most aggressive — and innovative — electric automotive company in India at the moment.
