Claude Is Down For Many Users For Over 4 Hours In Major Outage

Claude has become the fastest-growing company in history, and millions of its enterprise users feel the pinch when the service goes down.

Claude has been down for over 4 hours for a large section of users in Asia, Africa and South America. Anthropic says as much in its Claude Status page. “We have identified the cause of elevated errors on requests to Claude Mythos 5, Claude Fable 5, and Claude Opus 5, Claude Sonnet 5 and are working on a fix. We will provide an update as soon as possible,” the company posted at 7:05 UTC.

By 9:13 UTC, Anthropic said that it was still working to bring the service back up. “We are continuing to work on a fix for this issue,” it said.

X is filled with users talking about Claude going down. “Yeah the Claude is Down for real,” a user from India posted.

Someone else said that it had been down for over 4 hours.

The memes and jokes started — people were wondering how vibe coders were coping with the outage.

Some felt it was a reminder that people still needed to know how to code without AI.

People talked about how they were unable to work with Claude being down.

Anthropic has become the go-to choice for enterprise users around the world with its Claude series of models. Unlike chatbots like ChatGPT or Gemini, Claude is primarily used by people at work, and a 4-hour outage will throw a spanner in the works of some schedules. A four-hour outage is also rare — while services like Google, YouTube and Facebook go down on occasion, they’re usually fixed and up and running relatively soon. It remains to be seen when Claude is back to normal, but for millions of Anthropic users, the outage appears to be hurting productivity in a way that wasn’t common in the pre-AI era.
