Doing My Best To Help Underpopulation Crisis: Elon Musk After Having Twins With Company Executive

Elon Musk isn’t only saving the world when he’s busy building companies — he now seems to be saving the world in his spare time as well.

Elon Musk had twins last year with a top executive at Neuralink, the artificial intelligence company he’d founded in 2016. The mother of the twins is Shivon Zilis, who is currently the Director of Operations and Special Projects at Neuralink. “Doing my best to help the underpopulation crisis. A collapsing birth rate is the biggest danger civilization faces by far,” Musk tweeted after the news became public earlier today.

Shivon Zilis, 35, appears to be a long-time Musk associate. She was a Project Director at Tesla from 2017 to 2019, and has been a board member on Elon Musk-cofounded OpenAI for the last 6 years. She is currently listed as the Director of Operations and Special Projects at Neuralink. Zilis was named in the Forbes 30 under 30 Venture Capital list in 2015.

The latest two twins bring up Musk’s total children to nine. Musk had had a boy with his first wife Justine Wilson in 2002, but the infant passed away at 10 weeks old. Musk then had a pair of twins with Justine Wilson in 2004, and later followed it up with triplets with Wilson in 2006. Musk then divorced Wilson, married actress Talulah Riley twice, and briefly dated Amber Heard. He then began dating musician Grimes, and had a child, the creatively-named X AE A-XII, with her in 2020. In 2021, Musk had another child with Grimes through surrogacy, this time named Exa Dark Sideræl Musk. The latest twins with Zilis round up Musk’s brood, which is now nine-strong.

And Musk only seems to be putting his money where his mouth is — Musk has long argued that the world faces a underpopulation crisis. “The world’s population is accelerating towards collapse, but few seem to notice or care,” Musk had tweeted all the way back in 2017, and in 2021, had said that population collapse was “potentially the greatest risk to the future of civilization”. Musk has been looking to save humanity in other ways — he’s helping prevent climate change by building clean cars through Tesla, and is looking to make humanity multiplanetary through SpaceX in the event earth goes through a cataclysmic event. And after having personally fathered 9 children, Musk seems to be just as enthusiastically solving the underpopulation problem as well.
