Zerodha CEO Nithin Kamath is a known fitness enthusiast, but he’s now actually making the podium in serious fitness competitions.
Zerodha CEO Nithin Kamath has finished third in his category at the HYROX event in Mumbai. Hyrox is a fitness race in which participants must complete 8 fitness exercises, each followed by a kilometer-long run. The fastest participant to finish is declared the winner.
“Turns out being old at HYROX has an advantage. #3 in my age category,” Kamath posted on X. His wife Seema, who is also a fitness enthusiast, competed as well. “Seema the cancer survivor killing the circuit as well,” Kamath added. Kamath finished the event in 1 hour and 27 minutes, which is a fairly impressive time for a non-professional.

HYROX was founded in Germany in 2017 by entrepreneur Christian Toetzke and Olympic hockey gold medallist Moritz Fürste. It has rapidly evolved into the world’s largest indoor fitness race series, and is known for its unique blend of endurance and functional fitness competition formats. HYROX events take place in more than 30 countries and over 85 cities, making it the fastest-growing mass participation fitness race globally.
HYROX events follow an identical race format worldwide: competitors alternate between eight 1-kilometer runs and eight different functional workout stations, covering all-around endurance and strength. The functional workouts include Ski Erg, Sled Push, Sled Pull, Burpee Broad Jumps, Row, Farmer’s Carry, Sandbag Lunges, and Wall Balls. Hyrox has been taking off in India in recent months, with well-attended events in Delhi and Mumbai, and another event slated for Bengaluru.
And Hyrox isn’t the only fitness event that Nithin Kamath competes in. Kamath has also competed in the Devil’s Circuit, which involves participants navigating a complex obstacle course. But what’s interesting is how seriously Kamath seems to take his fitness — not only does he run Zerodha, which is the biggest broker in India in terms of revenue of profits, but also seems to find the time to bring this intensity to these fitness events, and ends up on podiums there as well. And with billionaires like Nithin Kamath taking their fitness so seriously, it’s likely that this enthusiasm will end up trickling down to the corporate world and the general population at large.
