Vijay Mallya May Or May Not Be Coming Back To India Soon, But Hilarious Memes Have

Over the last 18 hours, it has been widely reported that Vijay Mallya, the fugitive former liquor baron, may be brought back to India anytime now, as all his extradition formalities have been completed by the CBI. Details about his flight, his lodging, and his health check arrangements in a Covid19 world were also shared. 

Mallya, who’s been on the run in the UK ever since the news of his defaulting a consortium of Indian banks of over Rs. 9000 crores came to light over 5 years ago, was to be flown back to India on Wednesday night, claimed a news channel. He was arrested by the UK police in 2017, but could not be brought back to India due to legal formalities and UK’s own complex extradition laws. Since then, the former King Of Good Times has continued to lead a lavish life in the UK, tweeting about RCB – the IPL team founded by his company UB group, retweeting Kingfisher’s boozy posts, and constantly stating that he’s willing to pay back 100% of his outstanding loans. He has hotly denied fraud, forgery and contempt of court – charges he stands to be convicted of in the Indian courts upon his arrival.

Though, the development has been denied by his lawyer, and Vijay Mallya himself on a Whatsapp message to TOI, the internet couldn’t care less.  A flurry of jokes and memes broke out on Twitter as the rumour of Mallya coming back spread like wild fire late last night.

Kingfisher, the celebrated airlines that Mallya founded was grounded in 2012 as the company filed for bankruptcy amidst reports of hundreds of employees who were not paid their salaries.

Mallya was a Rajya Sabha MP, with various parties including Janta Dal and the Congress. 

The ruling government of the BJP has often been credited for bringing to book many of the defaulting and fugitive businessmen during its terms. 

 

SBI bank, the largest lender whom Mallya owes over about Rs 1,600 crore  has a reason to celebrate.
