Once, I was trying to set up my new printer and couldn’t get it to work. So, I called tech support, and the representative told me I needed to go into the settings and change the paper size. I did what he said, but it still didn’t work. Then he told me to try changing the ink cartridge. I did that, but it still didn’t work.
At this point, I was starting to get a bit frustrated. So, I asked him what I should do next. He told me to unplug the printer and then plug it back in again. I did as he said, but the printer still didn’t work. Finally, he told me to just give up and buy a new printer.
I was so angry that I just hung up on him.
Like a stuck record…
One time, I worked for a large corporation with our in-house tech support team that we could call if we had any computer problems. One day, one of my co-workers called tech support because his computer was acting up. The tech support representative told him to unplug the computer and then plug it back in again.

Go and stand on the roof
In one company I worked for, we had company mobile phones that we used to communicate with people in different departments.
However, the mobile reception in our office was really bad. I called tech support, surrounded by other people in my department who were also having phone problems, and told the representative about the bad reception.
He told me to go outside and see if the reception was any better. I did as he said, but the reception was still bad. So, I called tech support back and told them what had happened. The representative then told me to go to the roof and see if the reception was any better.
They literally asked me to go and stand on the roof to see if that helped. The roof.
15 floors up when trying to call someone four floors away. We went back and forth several times, and he genuinely thought this was going to be a long-term solution to the problem!
Needless to say, I was not happy.
