This Man Cycled 300 Miles To Promote His Company

Companies do all sorts of things to promote their products. They buy slots on hoardings, they do TV commercials, they even get people to dress in ridiculous costumes and hand out flyers. But what this Dutch man did was quite amazing – he cycled all the way from Amsterdam to London – with his cats.

Thomas Vles runs poopycat.com, a site that sells custom-made litters for cats. Being a small operation, he didn’t have the big bucks for a massive marketing campaign. So he decided to take matters into his own hands (or feet). He bundled his two cats, Mushi and Cheesy, into a trailer behind his cycle, and set off on the 300 mile (500 km) journey.

His kittymobile, as he had affectionately dubbed it,  ran through the flat plains of Holland before he bundled it in a ferry to cross over to England. The journey took him 3 days, and grabbed the attention on many perplexed passersby on the way. The story also received coverage from major news outlets. His facebook account managed to get 18k followers, and 3k people followed his instagram, where he had painstakingly documented his entire journey.

Google search trends for the term “poopy cat” spiked, showing that he’d managed to grab some eyeballs on the internet.
